The Department of Physics has over 1000 staff, students, visitors and collaborators organised into 15 research groups and a number of support services. The roles will involve mechanical engineering support to the experimental research groups, designing and manufacturing bespoke components and whole pieces of apparatus to allow Physics research to be conducted.

We are looking for a CNC Manufacturing Engineer (Principal Technician) to join our team at the Department of Physics (just off Madingley Road in Cambridge).
You will be a member of the Cavendish Technical Services, delivering highly specialised technical support to research groups and external customers in the design, development, manufacture, maintenance and installation of scientific instruments and research laboratory equipment and varied commercial projects.

The Department of Physics is recruiting a Mechanical Engineering apprentice to join their training scheme, commencing in September 2022. The successful candidate will undertake a structured training programme in Mechanical Engineering.
The role is workshop based and the use of equipment used in manufacturing including manual and CNC machines, plus design as the primary skill using computer aided design (CAD), for which training will be given.
